Why is this Honour different
to the other awards?
The Lifetime Achievement Honour is not an Excellence category of the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards but an induction into an honour roll. This induction takes place at the annual WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards Gala Ball.
Nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Honour will be assessed by an independent panel for consideration of induction based on a long standing and extraordinary contribution to the nursing and midwifery professions. This contribution exceeds what would normally be achieved during their professional role.
Who can be nominated?
All health care colleagues are invited to submit the name of a nurse or midwife who has made an outstanding contribution to their position and the nursing and/or midwifery profession(s) over their career.
How are nominations assessed?
An independent advisory body (WA Nursing and Midwifery Lifetime Achievement Council) meets to consider all nominations and recommends who should be inducted onto the Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll. The Council includes respected senior nurses and midwives from WA and interstate, a consumer representative and a Gold Sponsor representative. The diversity of the Council ensures a broad perspective.
In considering nominations, the Council seeks to clarify that the nominee(s) has:
- demonstrated achievement at a high level
- contributed over and above what might be reasonably expected through paid employment to advance their profession
- made a valuable and impactful contribution to their profession and made a difference to their patients and those around them.
The degree and value of the contribution of service, rather than length of service, is the primary focus of consideration.
Is it necessary to provide referees?
Yes, the name and contact details of individuals who can comment directly on the nominee’s service and contribution to their profession should be provided.
As a general guide, two to four referees are required for each nomination.
Are nominations confidential?
All nominations are strictly confidential and the information provided will be used only to assist the Council in considering the merits of the nomination.
The nominated individual should not be approached for information or advised of their nomination at any stage. Nominees are not advised of their nomination.
Honour rolls, unlike awards, do not usually announce unsuccessful nominees. Unless inducted, nominees should never know they were nominated.
The Council reserves the rights to choose one or multiple recipients to be inducted to the Honour Roll.
Successful recipient(s) are advised of their nomination prior to the Gala Ball, where they will be inducted to the Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll.
